In this ongoing class, students will take a step beyond understanding the basics of how to multiply and divide to now apply these skills towards more advanced tasks. This course will give students a much deeper look into analyzing information in multiplication and division problems to correctly choose which operation is need to solve a word problem. On top of this ability to correctly analyze a multiplication or division word problem, students will also gain a much deeper understanding of the intricacies of multiplication and division by studying patterns and properties that will help them solve word problems with greater ease and fluency. Following is a schedule of the first 10 weeks of class topics: Week 1: Week of February 7-13: The Associative and Commutative Properties of Multiplication Week 2: Week of February 14-20: The Distributive Property of Multiplication Week 3: Week of February 21-27: Identifying the Associative, Commutative, and Distributive Properties Week 4: Week of February 28-March 6: Fact Families Using Arrays and Equal Groups Week 5: Week of March 7-13: Finding an Unknown Number in a Multiplication or Division Equation Week 6: Week of March 14-20: Determine the Operation Using Key Words Week 7: Week of March 21-27: Multiplication Patterns Using Multiplication Tables Week 8: Week of March 28-April 3: Multiplication and Division Patterns Using Input and Output Charts Week 9: Week of April 4-10: Solving 2-Step Word Problems With Pictures and Models Week 10: Week of April 11-17: Solving 2-Step Word Problems Using Algebraic Equations
