Have you ever wondered how 3D printers work, or perhaps how 3D designs are generated? In this engaging, informative class, our expert instructors will teach you all that’s needed to know about 3D design and printing, including the mechanics behind the printer, the dos and don’ts of 3D printing, the relevance of the 3D design industry, and how to create your very own ready-to-print 3D character using the program TinkerCad! After this fun lesson, you will become masters of 3D design and understand how to use perspective, translation, and scaling in order to creatively create your own personalized 3D characters! No prior experience or knowledge is required.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about what 3D design is, how it is used in the real world an why it is such a powerful communication tool.Students will also learn about 3D printing, its advantages and disadvantages over other manufacturing processes, and how to tailor their designs for the specific limitations of 3D printers.

Parental Guidance
- Students will be using TinkerCad which is a 3D Modelling & Design online software.
- The Zen Maker Lab's account will be used for the class, and login will be provided during the session.
- Students will be required to put their first name and last initial to identify their designs.
Supply List
A computer or device that can run TinkerCAD. If you are unsure if your device can, please reach out and we can instruct you on how to test. Many tablets struggle to run TinkerCAD.
