Description
Class Experience
This class will cover 32 of the most common sight words for beginning readers: Who, What, That, This, There, Here, Me, Has, She, As, I, We, Be, Is, He, Was, You, Like, The, Of, No, See, They, With, My, Have, Play, To, How, Are, A, and Said. We will do this over in 40 classes by practicing reading, writing, and recognizing the sight words repeatedly in multiple contexts. Sight words will be introduced one at a time and reviews will take place after 3-5 sight words have been introduced. There...
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn basic sight words to help them begin reading. They will be introduced to the 'th' and 'sh' sounds as well as 'ee' silent e and 'ay'. They will also practice handwriting and phonetic reading in the process.
I have worked as a reading aide and kindergarten instructional assistant for 3 years. As such, I was in charge of reading with students, assessing their reading level, and helping them move steadily through the curriculum. I have helped over 100 children learn to read.
As part of class, students will be filling out worksheets and reading. This should be completed as students watch the videos, but some students may take longer. Parents may wish to practice flash cards or reading with children outside of class time. This is highly recommended but not required. I ask that students send a picture of one of the completed worksheet pages to me after each lesson so that I may monitor their progress and stay in contact.
Students need to be able to print out the accompanying worksheets A pencil A highlighter Scissors (this is for cutting out the flash cards and may be done by students or parents)
Students will know they are successful if at the end of class they can read all 32 sight words. **note that it takes repeated exposure for students to memorize and retain new words and concepts (you may have noticed this as your child was learning the alphabet or their numbers). Do not be discouraged if your student does not perfectly memorize all 32 sight words the first time they take the class. That is why you will be given the tools to help your student continue to practice (flash cards, review games, worksheets, etc.)**
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
