Class Experience

In this one time class students will have the chance to explore technique in depth within the genre of their choosing. Come and join me while we explore Ballet, Tap, Lyrical, Jazz, Contemporary or Acrobatics in this private class that is suitable for 12-14-year-olds that have a little to a lot of experience.

What will be taught?
- Beginning with a warm-up, students will stretch out their muscles and warm up by working on their flexibility. This class will involve well-known songs to make class even more enjoyable.
- We will then potentially move to the barre (dining chair, couch, kitchen counter) where we will explore the barre work of Ballet, Jazz, Acrobatics. Within other genres, we will move right to the centre.
- Together we will work our way to the middle of the floor where students will have the opportunity to move a little more freely. This class will include across the floor work such as leaps and turns.

What should be worn?
Students are encouraged to wear clothing that they feel most comfortable in while taking my class. Nothing too official is required, but obviously, if you have a leotard or something similar at home, that is great. I do recommend that students wear leggings or shorts rather than baggy bottoms because it's important for me to see straight knees during most dance styles to ensure growth is being made, technique-wise! On students' feet, I encourage ballet shoes if possible. If not, bare feet regarding that the floor they will be working on is safe and secure. I would prefer if students did not wear socks on a hardwood or tiled floor - we don't want any injuries!

Learner Interaction;
I will do my best to allow all of my students to interact personally with me by asking any questions they may have. As this will be a 1-1 class, students will have much more opportunity to speak with me about technical questions etc. My student's safety and enjoyment are my top priority. I will always be taking extra care in making sure each student is comfortable.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
For class, students should have a reasonably open space where they can safely take part without having objects in their way. I also encourage water to be nearby to ensure students are well hydrated. We will be stretching and warming up correctly together before we begin to make sure the student's muscles are ready to dance!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi everyone! I am Mrs Sarah and I can't wait to get to know you in the near future! I was born and raised in Ireland and am now living in the United States with my husband and 1 year old daughter!
As a mom, there is nothing that I love more than getting to share what I am most passionate about with my students. With over 8 years of experience, dance and theatre have allowed me to teach and perform all over the world; Ireland, England, France, Spain, USA. After living in Paris, France at Euro Disney, I will be incorporating the skills I have learned during my time as a Costume Character and Parade Performer at Disney into my classes!

I hope to provide classes for all skill levels, beginner to advanced in numerous genres including but not limited to; Classical Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Irish, Acrobatics. I am always open to queries regarding a genre that is not listed and I will happily do my best to tailor my classes to suit my students needs! I am fully qualified under BTDA (British Theatre Dance Assosication) which is why my main concern during our class periods is the safety and correct skill level for the specific student. I pride myself in knowing when each of my students are ready to move to the next level based on their technical and artistic growth!

Some examples of age group suitable classes that I will be providing;

Ages 2-5; Weekly themed Creative Movement classes (eg; Mermaid Week), incorporating appropriate dance parties as well as appropriate technical learning!

Ages 6-8; Genre specific lesson plans, incorporating the occasional dance themed game.

Ages 9-11; Genre specific lesson plans, involving more of a serious approach to the specific genre. All while still making sure that class is a fun, enjoyable space for my students.

Ages 12+; Genre specific lesson plans, tailored to suit specific classes. Involving some artistic choreography to help students grow as professionals in this field!
