Homework

1 hour per week. Because this is a self paced class, all assigned problems must be done independently. If students have questions or didn't understand a question, they are encouraged to ask in the classroom.

Certificate of Completion

A cute monster certificate will can given at the end of the class with the child's name upon request.

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2

Beginner Level

During this 30 day self paced class, students will have access to a new monster subtraction math problem every day. Problems will only be subtraction and will start with 20 objects at most. The grade level is approximately grades kindergarten to grade 2. Some younger students might require a bit of help from parents, depending on their capacity. The first day I will share a video explaining the work and at the end of the session, I will provide the answers to all the questions so that the students can check their work. Students are encouraged to ask questions in the classroom. It is important for me to keep daily communications with my students in order to support them. At the end of the 30 day class, students will have solved 30 different and monster themed math problems.

Lesson 1:

Subtraction From 7 or Less

 In this first week, students will receive monster math problems with a starting number of 7 or less objects. Students will read the problems, write the correct equation and move the objets to reveal the correct answer. For example, there might be 7 apples and the monster takes 3 apples. The students will move 3 apples into the monster's basket. Then the students will finish the sentence to create a complete sentence answer.

Lesson 2:

Substraction From 10 or Less

 In this second week, students will receive monster math problems with a starting number of 10 or less objects. Students will read the problems, write the correct equation and move the objets to reveal the correct answer. For example, there might be 10 pieces of garbage and the monster picks up 3 pieces of garbage. The students will move 3 pieces of garbage into the monster's trash bin. Then the students will finish the sentence to create a complete sentence answer.

Lesson 3:

Subtraction From 15 or Less

 In this third week, students will receive monster math problems with a starting number of 15 or less objects. Students will read the problems, write the correct equation and move the objets to reveal the correct answer. For example, there might be 13 boxes of cereal and the monster takes 5. The students will move 5 boxes of cereal into the monster's shopping cart. Then the students will finish the sentence to create a complete sentence answer.

Lesson 4:

Subtraction From 20 or Less

 In this first week, students will receive monster math problems with a starting number of 20 or less objects. Students will read the problems, write the correct equation and move the objets to reveal the correct answer. For example, there might be 19 flies and the monster catches 3. The students will move 3 flies into the monster's bug net. Then the students will finish the sentence to create a complete sentence answer.

Learning Needs

Perfect for children with learning disabilities as they will receive a google slide document that can be manipulated. Special needs learners do especially well with manipulatives and I wanted to recreate this in a digital format.

Pre-Requisites

If the children can not read or struggle with reading, they will need assistance with the word problems.
