This class will introduce you to correct posture and hand position. You will also learn about what support is and how it helps with tone production. We will put those two concepts together while learning how to practice scale patterns. These three skills are necessary to playing flute well. I will show you fun ways to work on these basics which will help you improve your tone and technique. This class is structured for intermediate flutists who have been playing at least 2 years. You should be able to play to high G and down to low C. All topics will be demonstrated by me and I will coach each student to help them understand and improve the skill.
Learning Goals
Students will see an immediate improvement in their tone. They will also learn ways to practice to improve their finger technique.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Ever since I heard my first performance of The Nutcracker at age 8, I knew I had to play flute. I attended some of the finest schools, including Interlochen Arts Academy and Peabody Conservatory, and studied with some of the greatest flutists and teachers. Teaching and playing flute is now my life. I seek out playing and coaching opportunities. I look for new music with different sounds and techniques. I strive to plan programs that keep audiences engaged and not wanting the performance to end. To me, music is the most expressive language there is. It brings people and cultures together, in happy and sad times. “Life without music would Bb”. Yes, I know that’s a joke, but it’s true. Music is a powerful means of communication and a vehicle from which to express feelings and emotions of all kinds. I truly live by this.
