A multi-media environment awaits with the purpose of growing learner confidence and skills in character development and storytelling. At the end, students will have an understanding of the three key traits of an unforgettable villain and will be able to apply these new character-designing skills to become a better creative writer. My goal is to foster an entertaining, inclusive, and educational experience inside a positive social environment. My teaching style is best described as "coaching for mastery" where I help the learner gain the skills to master the topic and build their own writing toolbox. There is no pre-requisite for this class, but it is recommended that learners watch Avengers: Infinity war and Avengers: End Game ahead of attending. Both movies are approved by Common Sense Media (Commonsensemedia.org) for ages 13+. Please note that this is NOT required viewing. The class is designed to include non-MCU fans too! CLASS FORMAT: 1. Greeting and review of lesson objective and class guidelines. (2 minutes) 2. Icebreaker Game (5 minutes) 3. Share knowledge about Villain Lore and Background (5 minutes) 4. Lesson: Analyze movie clips to investigate key characteristics of unforgettable villains. (25 minutes) 5. Group Share (5 minutes) 6. Closing of the Class (2 minutes)
Learning Goals
1. Learners will add to their own writer toolbox with creative and technical skills of character development and how character connects to plot (story building).
2. Learners will take away key information on designing complex and unforgettable villains.
3. Students are invited to participate in exercises of critical thinking and opportunities for development of emotional intelligence through the investigation of character backstory and character motivation.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: End Game are rated PG-13 for sci-fi violence including several sequences of destruction and fighting. There are several instances where blood is drawn, including wounds and one gunshot to the chest. There is some language, including insults without swearing and religious exclamations (e.g. Oh God!). Some substance use, including drinking beer and the mention of wine. Finally, both movies deal with death or disappearance of loved ones, which can be triggering for some learners.
