Welcome to my classroom! Students should be ready to have fun while learning the basics of 3 and 4 digit multiplication. We will learn by instruction and hands-on activities. Students will show their work/ideas by solving problems either on a whiteboard or worksheet. They will have the opportunity to show their learning to their classmates and teacher. We will begin the class with an introduction of ourselves. I will then move into a brief discussion of what multiplication is and why we use...
Goals For This One-Time Course: *How to multiply 2 and 3 digit by 2 digit numbers (and larger numbers if time permits) *Different strategies to solve the problem *Follow-up using the "box method" (show the method to new students)
I am offering this class because I know how frustrating it can be to learn new tricks with math problems. As a child/student, I remember feeling anxious and stressed while doing math. When I became a teacher, I decided to take more courses in Math to better understand the different strategies that are out there to make math more interesting and fun! I have since received my Math Specialist. My goal, as your child's math teacher, is to make it fun and interesting and hopefully instil in them a love for math that sometimes takes years for others to discover.
No homework will be assigned.
Please ensure that your child comes to class with a notebook, pencil/eraser and a colored pen for editing work. They may also use a small whiteboard with a variety of colored markers. I will provide a multiplication chart that the student can download before class if needed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will review each student's work throughout class. For students who do not wish to speak during class or show their work to their peers, they may provide their answers in the chat box. I would ask, that students try to participate in each class to help them become more confident in their math skills.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
