Which “there” is it? Are you here or do you hear? In this self-paced class, we tackle the grammar, spelling, and tricks to sort out 11 high-frequency words with 6 pre-recorded lessons, fun games, and plenty of engaging practice.

Which “there” is it? Is it “where” or “were”? For the next few weeks we will sort these out while telling silly stories, playing games, and much more!

In our first lesson we will learn basic sentence structure & types. Our sentence skills will give us the clues to solving our word mix ups! We will also practice sorting sentences with a silly story. Finally, we will learn about linking verbs and make a list of them.  

Homework assignments will include a worksheet and building silly sentences.

During lesson 2, we will discover pronouns and build of list of the contractions made by combing subject pronouns and linking verbs. We will also get a short history of English and focus specifically on the contraction, “they’re”.

Homework assignments will include a worksheet, contraction word sums, and a contractions game called Buckets of Fun.

After a quick game of Contraction BINGO, we will uncover that there are no past tense linking verb contractions. This discovery will lead us to a T chart comparing the words “we’re” and “were”. Finally, we will discuss that the word “ear” is right inside the word hear!

Homework will include a worksheet practicing new skills, a coloring page, and contraction mazes.

Adjectives & Possessive Adjectives with a Focus on Their & Your

In lesson 5, we learn the concept that words with the same job often share similar spelling. We look at several examples of this before focusing in on the spelling similarities between “here”, “there”, and “where”. We also look at other uses of ”there” and finalize our flow chart.

Homework includes a worksheet practicing our new skills, a Candyland style board game, and a coloring page with our visual tricks to distinguish ”there,” “they’re,” and “their.”

We start our final lesson with a word puzzle before getting to work. In this lesson we look at the vowel team “ea” and the different sounds it can make. We specifically focus on our word “hear” and the new word we learn today, which is “wear”. We finish this lesson with a discussion about errors and editing and an editing activity.

In addition to a final worksheet to practice our new skill, I leave you with a few more word puzzles, a board game, and Memory game.
