Class Experience

US Grade 2
In this class we will learn a math concept each week from the 2nd grade curriculum. Each week will by a stand alone lesson and topic. This ongoing class provides flexibility for students to stop and start on an as needed basis because the curriculum does not build upon itself, each week's topic is stand alone. This class is continual, the classes will feature a new lesson for 28 weeks, at the end of the 28 weeks the course will start over again. This gives your child the opportunity to experience the 2nd grade math curriculum in its entirety if all week's are completed.

The topics we will cover include: place value through hundred place, two-digit addition and subtraction (with and without regrouping), number bonds, skip counting 2's, 5's, and 10's, arrays, multiplication, repeated addition, fractions, money, telling time, perimeter and area, measurements, and much more!

This class is presented in a fun and interactive way. All children will be able to interact with each other and the teacher. The child's knowledge will be checked through completed activities, lessons, and questions that are asked during class. This curriculum is aligned with common core however, I do not present the information in that way. I believe children learn and retain information from visual, practical, interactive, and hands on experiences. I provide many opportunities for group activities, as well as, independent activities.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have taught children 2 - 13 yrs old in a classroom setting for 20 yrs. In 2008, I joined a co-op elementary school with a constructivist approach. I believe whole-heartedly in the constructivist approach for children because it involves children being actively involved in the knowledge construction as opposed to passively receiving information.
I enjoy teaching a wide variety of subjects including lower elementary language arts, math, and science lab classes because I can apply my constructivist approach to help the children think outside of the box, problem solve, and make conclusions from their experiences in my classes.
My teaching style is very interactive. My classes include discussion, interaction, and a lot of learner feedback and support. I believe that learning should be fun, as well as, educational for my students. I believe that learners should thoroughly enjoy learning in order to produce life long learners. Learner interests are always taken into consideration when creating my class curriculum.
In addition to teaching, I am a mom of five, dog mom to two, and cat mom to 3! I love my large family and I wouldn't have it any other way! I hope to meet your learner in my classroom!
