2nd Quarter FLEX Spectacular Science: 5th-6th Middle School Comprehensive Science
What's included
Class Experience
These "Spectacular Science" courses are a fantastic way to meet your student's science curriculum needs! This class is part 2 of a 4 part series designed to cover an entire year of science curriculum for your 5th or 6th grader. Students will get a video from me once a week and have two-three assignments to complete each week. Classes will include several activities designed to capture every type of learner including illustrating, organizing, reading, writing, watching, researching, exploring, and even game-style activities! I'm a firm believer in creating engaging learning experiences, and I know middle school students will look forward to each class. Because this is a FLEX option there will be no live classes. Students should expect to interact in the classroom via weekly discussion threads, and optional video responses. Interacting in the discussion thread will be essential to the learning process. Feedback from the teacher will be given on all assignments, and everyone will be instructed on how to share pictures of work completed when required. Students will also have access to vocabulary games specific to our unit of study where they can compete against each other for high scores. Although there will be some flexibility on when students complete the assignments, I will provide students with a suggested schedule for assignments and discussion posts. I will make the materials available in advance so that they have plenty of time to complete the work, just contact me if your student has a conflict and we will work together to find a suitable solution! ****Quarter 1 is NOT required before taking this course. Courses can be taken in any order!**** Part 2 of this 4-part course will focus on Earth & Space science, with an emphasis on diving deep into learning about Earth's place in the Universe. Unit 1- Planets (Weeks 1-4) -Objective: Students can describe the physical properties of planets and their locations and describe the movements of the Sun, the planets, and the Galilean moons. -We will explore this topic in 4 live class periods. Students will complete 3 pre-class activities and one project. (Projects can be as time/labor-intensive as the student chooses) Our last week in this unit will include a fun escape room style informal assessment! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unit 2- Seasons (Weeks 5-8) -Objectives: Students can model and illustrate how the tilted Earth rotates on its axis, causing day and night, and revolves around the Sun causing changes in seasons. -We will explore this topic in 4 live class periods. Students will complete 3 pre-class activities and one project. (Projects can be as time/labor-intensive as the student chooses) Our last week will include another fun escape room review/assessment! If you have any questions about this unit feel free to message me.
