Description
Class Experience
Welcome to second grade math! This is the third class in a series of 4 classes (Fall, Winter I, Winter II, & Spring,) and can be used as your student's sole math course for their year or as a supplement to another math class or curriculum. Students should have successfully completed a first grade math course. We will work through the Singapore Math Curriculum which is aligned with the Common Core math standards. Students will continue to develop their number sense. Students will be able to use mental math strategies to accurately add ones and tens. Students will be able to use mental math strategies to accurately subtract ones and tens. Students will understand multiplication as repeated addition. Students will memorize their multiplication tables of 3 and 4. Students will understand division as repeated subtraction. Students will learn personal responsibility by coming to class prepared each day. Students will learn to raise their hand and take turns speaking. Students will learn to participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners.
Our teachers have extensive teaching experience in brick and mortar k-12 settings as well as online elementary education.
No Homework!
Most materials will be included in the price of the course. Students will additionally need to print out tests at the end of each chapter to be completed in class.
Students will be assessed informally on an ongoing basis. At the end of each chapter, a formal test will be given to monitor student progress. A formal letter grade can be provided upon request at the beginning of the course.
3 hours 20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will utilize Singapore Math 2B curriculum in this class.
