Welcome to second grade math! This is the second class in a series of 4 classes (Fall, Winter I, Winter  II, & Spring,) and can be used as your student's sole math course for their year or as a supplement to another math class or curriculum. Students should have successfully completed a first grade math course. 

We will work through the Singapore Math Curriculum which is aligned with the Common Core math standards. In addition to Singapore Math, this class will utilize other activities and strategies to teach math such as number talks to improve student number sense, weekly addition and subtraction practice, and projects which will incorporate older material with what we are currently learning. My teaching style is "I do, we do, you do" through this method, I will guide student learning to meet each student where they are at and differentiate their learning. 

Our classes become small families. It is important for students to come to class ready to participate in their learning with their cameras on and limited distractions around them.

Multiplication and Division Foundations

Determine whether a group of objects (up to 20) has an odd or even number of members, e.g., by pairing objects or counting them by 2s; write an equation to express an even number as a sum of two equal addends.

Use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and up to 5 columns; write an equation to express the total as a sum of equal addends.
