Description
Class Experience
In this ongoing social studies class, we will meet twice a week for forty minutes. The overall social studies content is based upon four units of study American Government/Citizens Responsibility, Historical Thinking, Geography, and Economics. Each individual lesson will be presented through a slide presentation. Students will engage in open conversations directed by the specific class topic. They will be encouraged to participate in activities to help enforce the lesson learned....
Students will develop an understanding in four units of study American Government/Citizens Responsibility, Historical Thinking, Geography, and Economics.
I have had over 10 years’ experience teaching elementary age students’ Social Studies curriculum. I have created lessons, followed state and common core standards, and implemented them within a full classroom setting.
Homework will not be assigned, but any class worksheets or activities are encouraged to be completed before the next class.
Before each class, I will attach the printout that is needed for the upcoming lessons that week. Also for the few lessons where we will be creating a project, I will make sure to inform which supplies that will be needed on the class page. To keep everything organized, I recommend having a folder or binder that they can use for all 4 units.
Students will be assessed through informal assessments. If caregiver requests specific progress monitoring, I am glad to accommodate.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This unit has been based upon the compilation of many state standards. Those state standards were cross-checked to verify the most common occurring standards. 💠For research and having multiple perspectives for all diverse cultures, I have used the websites www.pbs.org to inform the students about the native American history that surrounds Mount Rushmore. I also will use the website www.nps.gov to help educate the young students the history that is involved in the creating of Mount Rushmore. For all other lessons and subjects I have provided a list of multiple websites that I used to obtain the information. * http://www.civics.ks.gov/kansas/citizenship/responsibilities-of-citizens.html * https://study.com/academy/lesson/rights-responsibilities-lesson-for-kids.html#:~:text=In%20the%20United%20States%2C%20citizens,juries%2C%20and%20vote%20for%20leaders. * https://www.education.com/lesson-plan/american-symbols/ * https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/rushmore-sioux/ * https://www.nps.gov/moru/learn/historyculture/index.htm *https://www.coolkidfacts.com/bill-of-rights/ *https://kids-clerk.house.gov/grade-school/lesson.html?intID=1 * https://kids.kiddle.co/President_of_the_United_States 💠For research in Geography: Websites that will be used as other sources in the class. * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6BE4VcYngQ *https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6DSMZ8b3LE *https://www.dkfindout.com/us/earth/continents/ *https://www.dkfindout.com/us/earth/oceans-and-seas/ *https://www.dkfindout.com/us/earth/ *https://livingatlas.arcgis.com/topoexplorer/index.html *https://mrnussbaum.com/usa/united-states-landforms 💠In Historical Thinkers: Students will need to look up and research an Inventor or Thinker of their choice.
