Completion of this class will cover the second half of second grade national math standards. Singapore method including bar models, mental math, number bonds and other strategies will be used in correlation with Singapore Dimensions Math curriculum Book 2B. The textbook will be shared on screen as well as white board use. Each student will receive guided instruction with the Think, Learn, Do model. There will also be opportunity for each student to practice individually each skill taught while in class. The class is kept as a small group class to ensure that each student has the best opportunity to master each skill. Optional homework from the corresponding Singapore Dimensions Workbook 2B will be given. Sample worksheets will be provided or the workbook can be purchased. Optional tests can also be provided upon request. This is a structured math class similar to what a student would find in a classroom setting in a brick and mortar school. We have fun and play games at times, but the focus is on learning and practice. My teaching style is very interactive and I require participation, but no one ever is put on the spot. My goal is to help your child achieve confidence in math. I am patient and if I notice a student isn't grasping a concept I will reach out between classes with extra examples. I maintain communication with adults as needed if I notice something is not being grasped so that I can help between classes. This class is followed by Singapore Dimensions 3A which covers the first half of the Grade 3 school year curriculum.
Learning Goals
Mastery of 2nd grade math skills and building math confidence. Students will specifically learn pre-multiplication skills and the concepts of money, time, and fractions.
