Welcome to Reading Readiness! Step 1: We begin each class with a Phonological Awareness Activity and a 3 part Drill, reviewing sounds and blending sounds to read words. Step 2: We learn a New Concept (phoneme). Using direct instruction, I introduce the letter(s), model the correct pronunciation and teach letter formation. Step 3: We then practice reading new words using that sound and play a game for reinforcement. Step 4: We work on fluency, reading a small just right piece of text together. Step 5: To conclude our lesson we practice spelling our learned sound in words and sentences. If time allows we read a story that contains our sound of the day.
