US Grade 2
This class will cover a full year of second grade reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary curriculum. Each week will be based around a read aloud book that the teacher will read. We will discuss the book, use a different reading comprehension strategy to explore and further understand the book. Each week we will take a closer look at the meaning of key words related to our book of the week through a variety of activities to help us expand our vocabulary. There will also be a grammar focus for each week as well. Each class will have a mini lesson where the teaching topic of the day will be introduced, group discussion and practice, and independent practice. I will use interactive slides and/or Jamboard in my lessons. 2023-2024 School Year First Day will be September 12, 2023 Week 1: Reading: Making Predictions Grammar: Capitalization and Punctuation Week 2: Reading: Making Connections Grammar: Capitalization and Punctuation Week 3: Reading: Summarizing with Somebody Wanted But So Grammar: ABC Order Week 4: Reading: Comparing Texts by the Same Author Grammar: Compound Words Week 5: Reading: Analyzing the Setting Grammar: Parts of Speech: Nouns Week 6: Reading: Making Connections Grammar: Common and Proper Nouns Week 7: Reading: Making Connections and Sequence of Events Grammar: Quotations and Shades of Meaning Week 8: Reading: Making Connections and Sequence of Events Grammar: Strong Verbs Week 9: Reading: Sensory Language/Imagery Grammar: Parts of Speech: Adjectives Week 10: Reading: Making Inferences and Drawing Conclusions Grammar: Parts of Speech: Verbs Fall Break: No Class November 20th-November 24th Week 11: Reading: Making Inferences and Locating Facts (nonfiction) Grammar: Adverbs Week 12: Reading: Comparing Folktales and Comparing Characters Grammar: Adjectives Week 13: Reading: Text-to-World Connections and Making Inferences Grammar: Antonyms and Synonyms Week 14: Reading: Making Inferences Grammar: Simple and Compound Sentences Winter Break: No classes Dec 25th-Jan 5th Week 15: Reading: Fact and Opinion Grammar: Possessive Nouns Week 16: Reading: Identifying the Lesson/Moral of the story Grammar: Pronouns Week 17: Reading: Comparing Stories and Identifying the Lesson Grammar: Plural Nouns Week 18: Reading: Finding Key Facts Grammar: Commas Week 19: Reading: Main Purpose Grammar: capitals Week 20: Reading: Analyzing Characters Grammar: Subject-Verb Agreement Week 21: Reading: Point of View Grammar: Abbreviations Week 22: Reading: Mood Grammar: Conjunctions Week 23: Reading: Character Feelings and Illustrations Affecting the Mood Grammar: Articles Week 24: Reading: Rhyme/Rhythm and Character Actions Grammar: Irregular Verbs Week 25: Reading: Structure of a Story Grammar: Comparative Adjectives Spring Break: No class March 25th-March 29th Week 26: Reading: Making Connections Grammar: Literal/Nonliteral Week 27: Reading: Identifying the Lesson Grammar: Suffixes Week 28: Reading: Earth Day Research and Structure of the Story Grammar: Prefixes Week 29: Reading: Analyzing Poetry Grammar: Poetic Devices Week 30:Reading: Analyzing Nonfiction Texts Grammar: Nonfiction Texts Features Week 31: Reading: Author's Purpose and Cause and Effect Grammar: Homophones Week 32: Reading: Problem and Solution and Character Motivation Grammar: Shades of Meaning: Verbs Week 33:Reading: Comparing Folktales and Character Analysis Grammar: Grammar Review Last class will be May 23rd.
