🌟 Instruction follows the Phono-Graphix method for teaching reading and spelling which was developed with students with Dyslexia in mind. The Phono-Graphix method is very similar to Orton-Gillingham and is based on the Science of Reading. 🤓 Research shows that repetitive practice with new skills helps us learn information faster and retain it longer. - 1. Students will learn the proper spellings of second-grade-level words and their usage in the English language. 2. Special focus on phonemic awareness, homophones, and words that just don't fit the "rules". 3. Students will gain confidence in their spelling, reading, and writing skills.
I am a state-certified Elementary Teacher who has become aware of the absence of structured spelling instruction in the schools today. In my private reading tutoring practice, I have watched my students become strong and independent spellers by using my approach. I have taught over a thousand spelling students on Outschool since March 2020 in second through middle school grade levels.

The method of instruction used in this class is Phono-Graphix which is based on the science of reading and is Dyslexia-friendly.
Students will only need lined writing paper and a pencil for Monday and Friday's lesson. The Wednesday class requires either colored pencils or fine-tipped markers and either lined or unlined paper. Spelling activity documents will be found in the classroom for printing on the day class starts.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
