US Grade 2
Beginner - Intermediate Level
The course will focus on strengthening 2nd grade and upcoming 2nd grade students on numbers and operations, geometry, measurement and data, and algebraic thinking skills. The lessons will cover topics such as comparing numbers, fractions, adding four two-digit numbers, subtracting two- digit numbers, etc. The class will meet twice a week for eight weeks. The beginning of the sessions will start with any celebrations and what we learned from the previos lesson. The end of the lesson will have a discussion and going over the homework. We will be creating pictorial models and using concrete objects to help us solve math problems. We will be writing and drawing anchor charts in our journal. We will also be having discussions throughout the session to check for understanding and any questions.
Learning Goals
The learning goal for this course if for students to strengthen their numbers and operations and algebraic thinking skills to become better mathematicians and solve math problems with courage.

The students will be able to add up to four two-digit numbers using mental strategies and algorithms based on knowledge of place value and properties of operations.

The students will be able subtract two-digit numbers using mental strategies and algorithms based on knowledge of place value and properties of operations.

Solving Word Problems
The students will be able to solve one-step and multi-step word problems involving addition and subtraction within 1,000 using a variety of strategies based on place value, including algorithms.

Hello everyone and welcome to my page, my name is Erika Garcia and I am a K-3rd grade Resource/Inclusion Teacher. I am currently teaching science, math, reading, grammar, writing, music theory, and phonological/phonemic awareness. I have worked with children for 7 years. I graduated with my Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with the honors of summa cum laude in May 2023. I am planning to go back to school for my Masters of Science and Literacy in a year or two. My philosophy of teaching is that all students are capable of learning in a way that will help them succeed in their education such as a hands-on learner, visual learner, auditory learner, etc. Along with teaching, I also love to sing and play the cello.
