In this ongoing 2nd grade math class, students will have a visual and hands-on experience to learn the 2nd grade math common core standards. Each week we will cover a new topic. The topics will include: place value, addition, subtraction (with and without regrouping), addition and subtraction word problems, comparing numbers, even and odd numbers, money, problem solving with money, time, shapes, equal parts, and the beginning multiplication concepts with equal groups and arrays. You can find the schedule listed below. The classes are structured with an introduction of the lesson's topic, teacher modeling, student interaction and participation, and independent practice. Students will have the opportunity to build relationships with other learners through sharing work, creating their own problems for the class to solve, and giving and receiving constructive, positive feedback to one another. These classes are ideal for 2nd grade learners beginning to learn the math concepts or who need review of a particular skillset. The classes are also suitable for 1st grade learners who need extension or a challenge, or a 3rd grader in need of review. Extra practice handouts are provided after class. This is optional and not required to return to the teacher. ***Learners are required to have a whiteboard and dry erase marker for class. Learners may also use a pencil and paper. *** CLASS SCHEDULES: Week of Feb 1: Comparing 3-digit numbers Week of Feb 8: 2-digit and 3-digit addition using Base 10 Model (WITHOUT regrouping) Week of Feb 15: 2-digit and 3-digit addition using Base 10 Model and why we "carry" (WITH regrouping) Week of Feb 22: 2-digit and 3-digit subtraction using Base 10 Model (WITHOUT regrouping) Week of Mar 1: 2-digit and 3-digit subtraction using Base 10 Model and why we "borrow" (WITH regrouping) Week of Mar 8: NO CLASS Week of Mar 15: Parts of a clock and telling time to the hour & half hour Week of Mar 22: Telling time to 5 minutes Week of Mar 29: Telling time to the quarter hour Week of Apr 5: Identify and draw 2-D shapes and discuss shape attributes Week of Apr 12: Quadrilaterals Week of Apr 19: Partition shapes into equal parts and discuss parts of a whole Week of Apr 26: Fractions Week of May 3: Use Repeated Addition to find the total number in arrays (Rows and Columns) Week of May 10: Intro to coins and counting coin combinations Week of May 17: Problem solving with coins and dollar bills Week of May 24: Bar Graphs and Picture Graphs

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello parents and guardians! My name is Ally Stanley and I am a stay-at-home mom to my almost two year old. I live in Tennessee and I have been teaching for 7 years. I taught 3rd grade and 2nd grades and tutored students K-5. When my son was born, I decided to teach from home. I have been teaching ESL in the online classroom for over a year now. I love reading, cooking, and baking when I am not teaching or being a mom to my son, Beau, and my fur child, Jake.
I have a dual B.A. in Early Childhood Education and Special Education from University of North Georgia. I received my Masters in Early Childhood Education with an endorsement in Gifted Education from Kennesaw State University.
I have a passion for making math a fun subject and breaking the uncomfortable barriers students oftentimes have with this subject. My classes are mostly math centered for early elementary learners. Each class will have a hands-on approach with the various math common core standards. My classes are engaging and welcoming to all. I encourage participation and create a safe learning environment for students to know that it is okay to make mistakes. We praise each other often and build relationships as we learn and have fun together. Learners oftentimes have the opportunity to take the teacher reigns from me in order to practice higher order thinking and creative skills.
I also enjoy offering a few creative classes like directed drawings or making slime!
I can't wait to see you in my classroom soon! Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about my classes.
-Ms. Ally
