US Grade 2
Come be a math super star as we learn together math concepts typically taught in a 2nd grade classroom. I am a licensed teacher with a Master's degree who has taught many years in both in a 2nd and 3rd grade classroom. Math was not my favorite subject as a child, but I love teaching it to learners! I want to ensure they don't have to feel the same way I did as a child. This means my math lessons are fun and engaging. I'll be using a variety of approaches; from kinesthetic to musical, to hands-on to help teach and reinforce math concepts. WHAT IS THIS CLASS? The course is designed to cover an entire year of math concepts and as an ongoing class, you can join in at any time. If you are looking for a wonderful math course for your learner, this could be the perfect course for you! Are you looking to join in for learning or a review of specific skills? This could be perfect course too as you can join the week(s) we'll cover your desired topic or skills. WHAT WILL YOUR LEARNER DO? Each week, we will meet 3 times to address the math skills listed below. I will use the approach of "I do, we do, you do" so learners have time to learn the concept and then have time to practice together and independently. Topics will be taught through songs, games, slides, and worksheets. All materials needed for class will be sent to the learner. It is helpful if you can provide your learner with a math notebook or paper as well as a pencil and coloring supplies. ASSESSING YOUR LEARNER Homework will be given on the 1st day of each week to allow learners to complete it at their own pace by the end of the week. Homework is an optional assignment that allows learners to practice skills taught in class. Any family wishing for their learner to receive feedback is welcome to send it back to me for review. At the end of the week, learners will complete an exit ticket (short assessment) to let families know how their learner did on the skills taught that week. WHAT IS AN ONGOING CLASS? An ongoing class means you can enroll for as many weeks as you'd like or see fit for your schedule. As an ongoing class, each week will consist of 3 meetings to teach the taught concept. Weeks are not dependent upon each other and learners can join in any time. Learners who stay enrolled for the entire course will receive a full 2nd grade curriculum. Scheduled sections will follow the same weekly schedule. Teacher expertise and credentials
I have taught 2nd and 3rd for over 16 years and love to help develop a love of math in students. Growing up math was not my favorite subject and now as an educator, I work to ensure children have a positive experience with math. I often taught the supported math class group at my school because that's the group that I loved to help build and grow as math learners. Therefore, I always make it my goal to teach math in an innovative and interacting way to allow students to connect to math. I enjoy creating rhymes, songs, and other creative ways to teach math. I employ many activities that are quick and engaging for students to keep them interested! We will use many different materials and they will vary each week to help us interact with math. I also love to use my background in reading and literacy to incorporate books with math--I bet you didn't know there are some great children's books that are about math! I will work to make this an upbeat and hands-on math experience for your child.
I am excited to have your child join in my class and hope they will walk away with a love for math!
