Class experience
This class is designed as a start-to-the-week social event. Think of it as a more grown-up circle time. It will frame your homeschool, hybrid, or public school at home week. Here is an example class schedule: 5 min. --Introductions; students are welcome to tell us about the area of the country in which they live if they choose to do so. 5 min. --Weather where you are and International weather events 10 min. --Today in History, National "what" day (e.g., "Hot Chocolate Day"), Notable...
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn how to navigate group interaction. Students will also learn some critical thinking skills when interacting with each other and class content.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
At times we may discuss international news. We will be limited in our assessment and no discussion of politics will be permitted. No graphic photos/video will be used. I will intentionally steer any conversation to encourage kids to feel safe. Please see below. As an example, "Today a major earthquake occurred in Chile. We know that many other countries are sending teams of helpers to offer food, water, and temporary shelter. We can be so glad that people are specially trained helpers to offer exactly the help they need. Let's chat about what an earthquake is . . . " *****By signing up for this class, you agree that your child will be informed of some major new events, which may not always be positive.
Most of my news references will be using Reuters, CNN or international news organizations. We will use Accuweather or NOAA for weather information. All other sources will be offered at the end of class.
