Welcome to Second Grade! Get ready for an interactive learning adventure! All of my class sizes are small in order to allow each learner to fully participate during class. In this ongoing class, we will focus on second grade learning objectives through interaction, discussions, group activities, exploration, projects, work sheets, crafts, games, sharing, and themes. Each week will include hands-on interactive lessons focused on second grade objectives. Every Sunday I will post the weekly objectives, supplemental activities, and a list of any supplies we may need that week. (Most of these are things you can easily find around the house.) I also supply many additional (optional) activities you can do at home. I will help you organize all of our learning material to set your learner up for success! CLASS OUTLINE: **Our class will follow a consistent daily routine. Routine is important for young learners. This predictability helps build confidence. All learning objects (new and review) are weaved into the class. My class size is small in order to allow sharing, discussion, conversations, friendships, and community. All learners are actively engaged.** GREETING: *We will begin each class with a greeting and "morning meeting" activity or "question of the day". This is a fun way to encourage learning and conversations. *Morning Meeting / Daily Notebook Activity: Our daily notebook activities include: Calendar, Weather, Days of the Week, Months of the Year, Handwriting, Second Grade Math Objectives, and Sight Words. Once they are comfortable with completing daily notebook activities, this will become less "teacher led" and more independent. We will share (and check) or activities as we move through our notebook activities. OBJECTIVES: ***Math objectives include: place value / base ten, addition and subtraction with regrouping, developing multiplication, time, money, odd and even numbers, graphing, estimation, word problems, measurement, and more. ***Language arts objectives include: reading, writing, story retelling, story sequencing, , fluency, comprehension, main idea, beginning research, phonics, grammar, spelling, sight words, contractions, poetry, letter writing, and more. ***We will also incorporate additional science, geography, and social studies objectives. The smaller class size is designed to create a more individualized experience for students. The weekly curriculum will be adjusted based on the needs of the students. Please feel free to contact me with any specific needs or special requests. I want to support all of my students in the best way possible. ***Socialization and participation are a critical part of early childhood development. With a small class size, students have more opportunities for sharing. They also learn to take turns and be active listeners. (For these reasons, I will not mute students unless there is a great deal of background noise or a situation that is distracting to our class.) Let's play, have fun and learn! Teacher Teri ***FALL SCHEDULE 2024 Daily Schedule*** As a reminder, every Sunday, I will post the weekly objectives, theme activities, supplemental activities, and a list of any supplies we may need that week. (Most of these are things you can easily find around the house.) I will give you additional notice for anything special we may need. Many of our concepts are learned together. Hello!
Greetings from Atlanta, Georgia! My name is Teri Delvac. I am a Georgia certified teacher and I have been working in the field of Education for over 25 years. I have a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Mercer University. After college, I spent several years working with young children in preschool and elementary school. I had the unique opportunity to own and operate a private early childhood school. I developed the school's curriculum for both the kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes. After earning my Master's Degree, I taught elementary school age students. During this time, I served on the curriculum team where I continued my passion of curriculum development. I also earned my English as a Second Language Endorsement. I worked with ESL students in my classroom, and also began working with adult learners. I have taught English to students online for the last five years. I also homeschool my own two children. I have used my experience in the classroom and as a curriculum designer to create an interesting, engaging, and complete curriculum for them throughout the years.
I love developing hands-on, student centered lessons. I strive to create a warm and inviting classroom environment where children feel safe to ask questions, try new things, and even make mistakes! This is how we all learn and grow. Life is full of opportunities when we have the confidence to try. Learning truly opens up the world.
When I am not teaching, I love spending time with my family. I have two amazing children. My son is 17 and my daughter is 14. We like to travel, explore new places and play board games. (Catan has been our favorite family game for the last few years!) I also love animals. We currently have three dogs and one cat.
I am very excited to share my passion for learning with your child. Let's go on a learning adventure together!
