Class Experience

All of the skills reviewed in class will be directly pulled from 2nd grade Common Core State Standard lists for language arts, reading, and math. You can access those lists below, or by going to www.corestandards.org
http://www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy/RL/2/

This class is structured as a virtual "circle time", meaning, it would be as if we were sitting in a circle in a classroom, about to begin our day. We'll start with an ice breaker question that I'll encourage each student to answer (but it is optional) and then we'll pull up a calendar and talk about the date. After these intro activites each day, we will jump into our 2nd grade skills for the week. (See syllabus below). Students will be encouraged to contribute, share, ask questions, and there will be ample opportunity throughout the week for surprise "show and tell" moments, and personal story time. I think it is so important for students to have social interaction with peers their age while also making learning fun. I will teach presentation style via screen share. We'll have a few songs and chants that go with what we are learning specific weeks. Occasionally, we will have a read-aloud story from www.storylineonline.net that will be pre-listed on syllabus. *Jump in anytime as skills don't build on previous weeks, it's just a mix of 2nd grade skills!* WILL MEET MON & WED each week unless otherwise noted!
