Class Experience

Each week we will have a new math topic. This is perfect for students that need extra help in different subjects. Please have your child bring a notebook (any book with blank pages) that they can bring to each class. Feedback is WELCOME on additional topics to cover that your child needs extra help with in their math studies!

* Minute 0 - 10: Learning objective and sharing time!
* Minute 10 - 30: We will work on word problems that I have and that the students bring. If students have specific math problems on their homework, I can help with those and we can work them out together.
* Minute 30 - 40 - We will play a fun, interactive math game and take turns!
* Minute 40 - 45: Recap of how we achieved our objective. We will go over homework (what item is needed for the upcoming week for sharing). Students can also share specific needs or what they didn't understand for future classes.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Marilyn and I love teaching elementary Reading and Math. I earned a Masters in Teaching from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland with a GPA of 4.0 and started teaching second and third grade. In 2013, I earned my Master’s in Library Science from Towson University with a GPA of 3.9 and made the exciting switch to an elementary school librarian. I have been teaching in the elementary classroom for 15 years and three of those years were in a Montessori preschool. I earned a teacher of the year award when I was a librarian for Baltimore County Public Schools and a second teacher of the year award when I taught first and second grade at St. Catherine of Siena in Texas when my family was stationed there for the military. I have been teaching online English and Math for three years. I have a current Advanced Professional Certificate in teaching children from Pre-K to 8th grade. In the fall of 2021, I took two courses to sharpen my online teaching pencil, “The Underlying Principals for Effective Literary Instruction”, and a second course called, “Teaching Students in Blended Classrooms”. This really sharpened my skills for teaching online and reaching each child effectively. I was born to teach because I have infinite patience and am a child at heart.
