2Day CAMP Listen & Brain Fit: Listening Skills, Following Directions Ages 11-14
Class experience
US Grade 6 - 8
**This 2-day mini CAMP is equal to 3 sessions of my once a week enrichment/ongoing version of this class.** *Class max is 3 learners to allow for more individualized attention.* Do your learners have difficulty actually listening to what they hear? Do they remember the details? In this class, learners we will begin to focus on the importance of listening with understanding for details. This class is for 11-14 year olds. There are other separate "Listen and Hear" classes available for 6-8...
The goal of this class is to help the learner realize the importance of listening for details and to begin to be a better listener by following directions containing an increasing number of details as well as begin learning some brain fitness exercises.
For more than three decades, I have successfully helped hundreds of children, teens and adults in public school, private school, homeschool and wellness center settings improve their listening and memory skills and in mire recent years, brain fitness skills. I have a M.S. degree in speech-language pathology and earned a Master's level teaching certification. I am also an Interactive Metronome (IM) Certified Provider. IM is a computer based brain fitness training program. We can all benefit from practice in listening for details, as well as, improving our brain fitness. I enjoy having a fun and structured class as I help learners improve their ability to listen for detail and improve brain connections so they can function even better in all aspects of their daily lives.
This class is designed to support all learning needs including those with ADHD / ADD, Dyslexia, ASD and others. Class size is kept very small so the teacher can help meet needs of each learner. Brain fit exercises challenge each individual.
1 or 2 pieces of 8.5x11 paper each class. White or light colored copy paper is best, but lined paper is acceptable if copy paper isn't available. A pencil with an eraser or an erasable pen OR a dry erase board with dry erase markers may be used instead of paper.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
One brain fitness exercise will involve balancing. A sturdy NON-rolling, NON-swiveling chair or sturdy table is required. Learners will be told to put their foot down and/or grab the chair or table if they feel too off-balance. For their safety, any learners not participating correctly in this exercise will be told to sit down and observe the others if an adult is not in the room to make sure directions are followed for this one exercise. I like for learners to have fun in my class, but need to have these rules and parental guidance in place. This very brief exercise is beneficial as well as fun and safe when done correctly. The safe guards I have in place for it are also great practice for listening and following directions. If your learner(s) have a physical reason they cannot participate they can observe or, if given prior notice, I can do an alternate exercise.
