Pen a Pokémon: Themed-Writing & Trading Card Activity
Class experience
Pen a Pokemon is a one-time writing class for Pokemon fans! Who doesn't want to create their very own personal Pokemon? In this class, writers will use a unique code to generate the name of their individual Pokemon-themed character. Students will then write a 6-8 sentence descriptive paragraph describing their Pokemon in great detail. Bonus! The class ends with a fun trading card activity. Together we will use the entire writing process (brainstorming, writing, revision, and final writing)...
Prior knowledge of paragraph writing is helpful, but not necessary, as these are skills we will be working on within our sessions. Reluctant writers, emerging writings, and experienced writers will benefit from this class. Student progress is monitored throughout the class, students who are needing extra writing time are encouraged to finish outside of class time by reviewing our class video.
My educational goal is to enable your student to become engaged in grammar through a common theme - Pokemon. By tapping into your learner's Pokemon enthusiasm, they are active and engaged in their learning process. I have taught over 4,000 Outschool students, and logged more than 800 Outschool teaching hours, in engaging, educational, and inspiring themed English Language courses. I am a certified Tennessee K-6th grade teacher. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in English, Communications, and Print Media. You will find more about my Outschool teaching journey on various media outlets, including CBS New York, Business Insider, and the American Board for Teacher Excellence. My personal goal is for your learner to have a positive, educational experience with Outschool. If you have a learner who is outside the range of the class, please contact me in order to make accommodations. If a class section is full, and it is the only time you can take the class, contact me as well - I am always willing to work with an eager learner.

If your child needs assistance with physical writing, please be available to help. Per the Outschool policy, all non-enrolled students must remain off-camera; however, parents are welcome to sit next to their students during class time. If your writer needs help from you during class, please mute your microphone to avoid excess background noise for other students. This class is taught to the pace of the average enrolled learner and Outschoolers will find this is an academic writing class, we spend time "chatting" Pokemon during our brainstorming session, however, students are expected to stay on topic during the writing portion of our class as we work through the writing organizer. If you feel the writing pace of this class might exceed the abilities of your student, and you know your child's learning abilities the best, please take this into consideration when making your enrollment decision.
