25 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
Want to write a story? Feel overwhelmed? Do you write run on sentences, or is your writing full of fluff? Try a micro-story with us! After a 2-3 minute introduction of the class expectations, each week students will be given a one word or short phrase prompt (ie. "new adventure" or "cars"). The idea is not to just write, but to try to tell an entire story in just 25 words or less that involve the theme. The possibilities are endless! Students will write for 10-12 minutes. They are free to ask questions or chit chat if they would like during this time but the main goal is to have a first draft. I will play calming music to help students focus during this time - students are free to mute if they don't want to hear it. At the end of class, students will share their writing with the class, and other students will give positive encouragement! Examples of published "micro-stories" will be sent to enrolled learners so they can get a feel for it! Writing micro-stories is a skill - it can be very difficult! Students will learn how to be very precise and concise to get their story across in 25 or less! Students can leave their writing as is, edit it, or expand it after class time. They are encouraged to post updates in the classroom! If a student would like to further workshop or expand their piece, I will read and provide feedback for any pieces under 500 words for free outside of class time! If desired, we can create a Google Site for students to publish their finished products. Upcoming themes: (Left as a surprise before each class so students can't spend much time preparing!) - Variety - Comfort - Blank canvas - Keeping track - Fire - Congratulations - Full house - Reading
Learning Goals
Students will flex their creative muscles and create micro-stories. They will practice creative writing, time writing, talking with their peers, and public speaking. If they decide to edit/expand their piece, students will learn about editing and writing longer pieces. This class is a great, fun way to practice being precise and concise in their writing!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I love writing! I'm a published author and studied poetry under a Poet Laureate! While I mainly publish articles and science pieces, I love creative writing and often have trouble being inspired. Doing these activities has helped me immensely and I love sharing it with students!
