Homework Offered
All reading will occur in class under the guidance and support of the teacher. Texts excerpts will be provided digitally via the Outschool classroom and/or during class via screen share. Any class activities we do not get to during the live class will be assigned for homework. In most circumstances, the homework is optional (but recommended), and, unless otherwise stated, the homework should take no more than 10-15 minutes. Independent reading is encouraged between classes (for homework) to practice the skills, but is optional.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
The teacher will informally and frequently assess the students throughout class to ensure comprehension and mastery of the skills. Assessment may look like multiple choice questions, select the best quote/line from the text, open-ended questions, or free response questions. Students will answer verbally and/or in written form through the Zoom chat.
Grades Offered
Students will need a pencil and notebook paper.
Text excerpts for reading will be provided via Outschool classroom and/or Zoom screen share.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
The teacher will use Google Slides for screen sharing purposes only. (Students are not expected to have a Google account.)
Parental Guidance: Some content in the texts we will read include mature or thematic elements. The teacher has selected texts that are typically considered appropriate for the middle/early high school age range. Parents are encouraged to view the upcoming texts and communicate with the teacher about any questions or concerns.
We will read excerpts from classic literature, nonfiction informational articles, and historical texts such as American presidential speeches or speeches from other prominent public figures. Please view the class description for the list of texts.
