This class is taught in English.
At the end of this class, students will be able to:
-Use their tools properly (pencil, eraser, ruler, sketchbook, sharpener)
-Create interesting marks and lines to create value and interest in their drawings
-Draw basic geometric shapes freehand and with a ruler
-Use contour line to create 3-dimensionality in their drawings
-Draw one-point perspective drawings
-Use observation and basic human proportions to create drawings
-Give constructive and positive feedback to themselves
I've been teaching grades K-12 for over a decade and have used this curriculum with upper elementary, middle school and high school students. This curriculum has been used and modified over the years so that it will set students up with the tools they need to be successful in creating their own works of art. In addition to teaching art, I am a professional painter and I use these same tools to create my art. My approach to teaching is hands-on, exploratory, and creative. I like to begin by demonstrating the basic skills, having students demonstrate the basic skills, and then allowing them to apply those skills to a creative project. I meet students where they're at and my goal is to grow their skills and their confidence so they feel empowered to tackle their own projects outside of class.
Tools for this course: -Artist pencil set or number 2 pencil can work (you can get a pack or you can use these: H2, HB, B3, B8. HB will work as well) -Pencil Sharpener -Sketchbook (suggested size is at least 9x12 inches) -Kneaded Eraser or other eraser -box or bag to keep art supplies together -ruler Possible Retail Sources: -Royal & Langnickel RART-200 Essentials Sketching Pencil Set, 21-Piece $8.49 on Amazon -Canson Universal Sketch Pad, Side Wire Bound, 9" x 12"- $11.60 on Amazon -Westcott Wood 12" School Ruler Scaled in 1/16" (103810)- $1.99 on Amazon
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
In this class, learner progress is assessed when students present their work to the class. Students who are struggling can be guided by the instructor depending on their individual needs.
2 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students will be looking at the work of various artists and listening to age-appropriate music clips for some activities. I screen each piece of music before using it.
