Class Experience
💁🏻♀️What will be taught? No two private lessons will be the same. My lessons are tailored to the independent learner. While group classes are wonderful, there are some learners that thrive in a 1-on-1 environment. The goal of my private lessons is to make the learner feel great about what they have accomplished and ready to learn more. 💁🏻♀️What topics will you cover? The exact topics taught in each lesson will differ depending on the student. For a 5 year old beginning to write, we will focus on time-order words, putting sentences in order, proper grammar, and understanding basic sentence structure. For a 14 year old who can write but has a hard time, we will focus on grammar, narrative paragraphs, expository paragraphs, facts versus opinions, introductory elements, punctuation, etc. 💁🏻♀️As soon as a caregiver books a lesson, they will be sent questions to give me background knowledge on their learner. I will use that to put a lesson plan together. If you have any questions before signing up, please do not hesitate to reach out. 💁🏻♀️How is your class structured? In my private lessons, the entire 45 minutes is used to encourage and foster learning. For young learners we might sing a song or read a small engaging book. For older learners, this includes a learner led discussion. Towards the end of our lesson, we will play educational games that aid in production of whichever skills we are focusing on. After the lesson, I will send caregivers a progress report outlining everything that was worked on in the lesson, and it will include optional outside work. If the student chooses to turn in their outside work after class, I will review it and send feedback before our next lesson together. 💁🏻♀️How will you teach? When I teach, I am very enthusiastic with learners. I want them to enjoy what we are doing. Through the years of working with different ages and different learnings styles, I have developed an approach that aims to teach without the students feeling like they are in an academic lesson. This helps with motivation!

Over the years, I have used multiple different techniques to help children learn to read, spell, and write. My son was a young, struggling reader/speller/writer. I was determined to help him, so I set out to research and rake in all the knowledge I could. Over the course of this time, I became well versed in Orton-Gillingham. I took multiple courses to help strengthen my knowledge of this and the importance of multi-sensory approaches to helping children with dyslexia. My son was the first learner I used these approaches on, and he made amazing progress. He now reads 3 levels above his grade and more importantly, he LOVES it! Since then, I was fortunate enough to use my expertise to help children in our local co-op. I have also done private tutoring for a few years, but I am new to the outschool platform. I have done 19 tutoring lessons on the platform so far and each one has been very successful! The children are engaged the entire lesson, and we have been able to work on many different objectives.
