Class Experience

US Grade 1
Addition, Subtraction, Shapes, Money, Telling Time, Measurement! Let's keep learning over the summer!

Join me to get started on these fun and engaging 1st grade math skills! This is a full, standards-based Math Curriculum. Its format is ongoing, so students can join anytime. Teacher Laura has structured the class so that students will cover many math concepts in each class, in a fun, fast-paced and interactive environment.

Teacher Laura believes that the best learning occurs when students are having fun and there is a caring relationship built between teacher and students. We will use lots of interaction, fun videos, props, visuals, and movement to enhance learning. Please bring a small white board/marker or paper/pencil to class, as we will use that to draw and write as we are learning.

Each week, the content will be different, but the format will be the same. This helps young students know what to expect and builds good routines.

Here is the format:
5 minutes: Calendar Time (days, months, year)
5 minutes: Addition/Subtraction Fact Fluency Practice (with flashcards, actions, and several strategies)
10 minutes: New math concept introduction, based on standards below
5 minutes: Review and play game!

Teacher Laura knows that 1st grade level students cannot sit still for long, so classes are intentionally short- only 25 minutes. We will pack a LOT of learning into 25 minutes! There is no assigned homework.

Math Topics covered in this course, with tentative dates:
2023 Schedule
June: Shapes (2D shape review, 3D shapes, 2D vs 3D comparison)
July: Time (Analog vs. Digital. How a clock is drawn. How to tell time to the hour.)
August: Place Value (ones/tens/hundreds) and Comparing Numbers
(Addition/Subtraction/Place Value/Base Ten concepts covered in every class)

Join anytime! I keep classes intentionally small (maximum 7), so classes do fill up! Reserve your spot today!
