Whether your child is a proficient reader and great at sight words or a struggling reader who has difficulty recognizing high-frequency words, this class will help reinforce what they know and support them on their learning journey. This course targets a different set of First Grade sight words each week with interactive games in our once-a-week live meeting. Through fun, interactive games, students will improve their sight word fluency. We will use different sight words each week, so students may join this ongoing class at any time. Attendance in previous weeks is not required. After brief introductions, we will begin class by reviewing the sight words we’ll be playing with that day using slides I share from my screen. Next, we will play as many sight word games as time allows. Games will vary and will include those that facilitate quick sight word recognition and those that give students the opportunity to write the sight words. Games may include Treasure Hunt, Memory, BINGO, Splash, Word Race, and Roll and Cover. Any games with a printable will be sent to families the night before our scheduled class. I will also display the gameboard on my screen. If you are not able to print out a gameboard before class, students will still be able to participate by writing on any sheet of paper they have at home. Students should either have completed Kindergarten or be reading at a Kindergarten level. We will briefly review the sight words we’re playing with at the beginning of class, but learners should feel comfortable searching for and reading the words. It’s okay if they take a few seconds to think about what the word is, or if they need teacher guidance for a few of the words! The games in this class are designed to help them build up their sight word fluency in a fun way. Words we will use in class will be: --------------------------------- Week 1 (October 16): will, up, other, about, out, many, then, them, these, so Week 2 (October 23): some, her, would, make, like, him, into, time, has, look Week 3 (October 30): two, more, write, go, see, number, no, way, could, people Week 4 (November 6): my, than, first, water, been, called, who, am, its, now Week 5 (November 13): find, long, down, day, did, get, come, made, may, part Week 1 (January 1): will, up, other, about, out, many, then, them, these, so Week 2 (January 8): some, her, would, make, like, him, into, time, has, look Week 3 (January 15): two, more, write, go, see, number, no, way, could, people Week 4 (January 22): my, than, first, water, been, called, who, am, its, now Week 5 (January 29): find, long, down, day, did, get, come, made, may, part
