NOTE: on my class page you will find science sections for grades 1, 2 3 & 4 Ask about sibling and multi-class discounts! I just loved teaching science to my 1st graders! This course can be taken for the purpose of introducing or for reteaching the 1st grade science concepts. Every 2- to 3-weeks the classes will work on a different theme. (Unless otherwise noted.) The students will interact with the teacher and their peers as they learn, investigate and discuss various science topics....
Both as a therapist and K-3 teacher, I have helped children for the past 19 years - last school year was my first full year on Outschool and then the 11 years before that, I worked in a school which specialized in high functioning autism (there were "typical" students there as well.) Throughout my experiences as an art therapist and then as a special education teacher, I have seen that children learn best when engaged in hands-on acitivities. They tend to retain information much more effectively when enaged in active learning. Besides learning the science standards, the focus for students in this class will be on actively participating.
Parents can decide if their learner needs extra time to work on their projects in between the weekly classes or after the last class if the project is not complete.
The list will be sent out before each theme week. Supplies will consist of the materials needed for that particular class topic. Sample supplies will be: paper plates, crayons, pencils, paint, glue, model magic (white,) paper, and any other supplies that are activity and theme specific.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
On-going dialog during class.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Depending on the independence of your learner, parents may want to be in close proximity in case your child needs assistance with the hands on activity.
