Class Experience
US Grade 1
NOTE: on my class page you will find science sections for grades 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5. Ask about sibling and multi-class discounts! I just loved teaching science to my 1st graders! This course can be taken for the purpose of introducing or for reteaching the 1st grade science concepts. Every 2- to 3-weeks the classes will work on a different theme. (Unless otherwise noted.) The students will interact with the teacher and their peers as they learn, investigate and discuss various science...
Both as a therapist and K-3 teacher, I have helped children for the past 19 years - last school year was my first full year on Outschool and then the 11 years before that, I worked in a school which specialized in high functioning autism (there were "typical" students there as well.) Throughout my experiences as an art therapist and then as a special education teacher, I have seen that children learn best when engaged in hands-on acitivities. They tend to retain information much more effectively when enaged in active learning. Besides learning the science standards, the focus for students in this class will be on actively participating.
