All 3 assignments given in each lesson will be combined to make 1 grade for the lesson (week).

Class Experience

US Grade 1
The course will build a learners reading comprehension by focusing on strategies such as summarizing, synthesizing, theme, characters and much more. We will read a variety of genres such as fantasy, informational, realistic fiction, and much more. Each lesson will have a video of the read aloud and highlighting the comprehension strategies. We will also focus on vocabulary that will be found in the stories and where the learners will learn them and use them in their own way. Assignments will be given that will include strategy organizer, power words organizer, and comprehension questions. Grade and feedback will be given with completion of all three parts as one whole grade.

 The learner will be able to monitor and clarify information from the story. The learner will also be able to describe the author's purpose.

Big Dilly's Tale
 The learner will be able to ask and answer questions over the text. The learner will also be able to explain who the characters are and they traits they possess.

Lesson 3:
Dan Had a Plan
 The learner will be able to retell the story. The learner will also be able to describe the setting of the story.

Lesson 4:
Places in my Neighborhood
 The learner will be able to make connections with the text. The learner will also be able to focus and explain the content area words (vocabulary emphasis).

Other Details

Supply List
Comprehension strategy organizers, vocabulary organizers, and comprehension questions will be provided. Learners may have writing materials if needed.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
