Description
Class Experience
*This class is great for learners who are comfortable reading CVC words on their own and have a solid understanding of when to use short vs. long vowels and diagraphs but they are looking to build their vocabulary, writing skills, spelling, understanding of language rules, reading comprehension and fluency. The goal is to build a strong understanding of words use in a variety of contexts in order to improve overall reading skills. In this course students will be able to: - Practice spelling...
-Please review sight words daily with your learner. These are words that appear often in books but are hard to sound out phonetically and will need to be memorized and recognized by sight (thus the name, sight words:). To improve reading skills it's imperative that learners are seeing these words often. I am providing flash cards that can be used as an option but there are a lot of creative and fun ways that you can incorporate sight words into learning practice. -In addition to sight words, please encourage your learner to read daily. The weekly reader provided in the classroom is a great option but any book on their level will do. It's also great that they hear you or another strong reader read on an on going basis to help them with building their own fluency and vocabulary.
1 file available upon enrollmentA sheet of paper or white erase board with a writing utensil is useful. Hand-outs will also be provided for extra practice.
None- Building an interest and love of reading is most important.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
