US Grade Kindergarten
HELLO!!
Join us in this complete curriculum class for Kindergarten students to be well on their way to learning all they need to know.  In this course you can expect PE, phonics, science, and geography as well as social emotional learning, gross motor skills, fine motor skills,  mathematical concepts, problem solving, language and vocabulary, writing skills and listening skills.  In this class learners will join Wild and Unstructured Learning in an adventure to grow their minds with understanding and readiness for 1st grade. 
 In this 8 week flex course students can learn at their own pace.  This class is designed for children to complete their weekly work whenever is best for them.  Students will have interaction with teacher and students regularly in the classroom.  Students will have homework and will be encouraged to participate.  Interaction for this class will be high interaction.  Students will comment on other students work as well as post their work in the classroom for teacher and student comment.  Each week we will cover several Kindergarten topics.  We will go through a lot of material so best for parents to help and be close by. This class is for students who have been to kindergarten and want a refresher or want to learn some kindergarten topics.  Here is a breakdown of our weeks!

Week 1-We will begin to discuss beginning sounds and students will do a scavenger hunt to find objects that start with the same letter. We will read a short story and find the words/letters that we know,  sight words, We will cover Asia and learn about interesting animals. We will discuss where the continent is on the globe and what interesting landmarks we might see if we traveled there. We will also do some exercise to work on our coordination skills and to get our heart rate up! We will wrap up with a brief dance party and gentle stretching to cool down our muscles, Students will practice writing A, B, C and D letters in both uppercase and lowercase.  They will also be making emotion puppets .  

Week 2-Students will review sight words as well as practice new sight words. We will begin working on beginning sounds to words and how to identify those sounds. We will read a short story and identify short words we recognize, We will begin by doing a gentle warm-up. We will talk about our Continent (Europe) and the animals that live there. We will practice moving like those animals, followed by a dance party! We will wrap up our PE time with some gentle stretches to cool down our muscles. For music we will be discussing the Violin and listening to what it sounds like, Students will practice writing letters E,F G and H in both uppercase and lowercase form. We will be learning the song B-I-N-G-O with hand motions.  This will incorporate movement.  Learning how to cope with needing alone time, Students will be doing a taste test with strawberries.  Which part of the strawberry tastes sour?  Which part tastes the sweetest?  Does a lighter berry taste different than a darker one?  Students will problem solve throughout our experiment. Students will be making a graph of their finding for math today.  

Week 3- We will review letters I, J, K  and L. We will practice reading our sight words together and identifying beginning sounds of our sight words. Students can share objects that begin with the letter I J K or L.  We will begin by discussing animals that live in North and South America and how they move. We will wrap up with a fun dance party and gentle stretching, Students will practice writing letters I,J,K and L today in both lowercase and uppercase form.  For motor skills this week children will be playing a game with exercise dice.  Students will trace their hands and with a parents help write affirmations on each finger and then will decorate them how they like. Students will participate in a smell challenge.  Parents we will need your help with this one.  Students will problem solve throughout their lesson.  Students at the end will add together all of their objects and write down 1 addition problem.

Week 4-Students will review their sight words they have learned so far and read a short story together. Students will practice making A letter of their choice out of clay(Keep in mind some playdoh and clay has wheat and could be allergic!). We will discuss vowel sounds of words and introduce how to find them. We will go to Australia and Antarctica and talk about the animals we find there. We will learn a short dance and practice it together.  Students will be practicing their writing with letters M, N, O and P in both uppercase and lowercase.  Students will practice their motor skills while doing movement with the Hokey Pokey. Children will use stuffed animals to show how to treat to others as friends and sharing.  Students will bring flowers to class.  We will break apart each piece naming their parts and learning what they each do.  Learners may choose to bring a magnifying glass to see a bit closer.  We will then be using flowers to create a painting of our own!

Week 5-We will review our sight words. We will read a short story. Students will practice vowel sounds.  We will be using motor skills while moving around with the song Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. We will practice our balancing skills. We will wrap up our time by doing some Yoga.  We will visit Canada and The United States and talk about some interesting foods we can find there!  We will be writing letters Q, R, S, and T in both uppercase and lowercase form. We will be conducting a cracker lab activity.  Students will practice adding and subtracting throughout lesson.  They will use problem solving skills throughout lesson.

Week 6- We will review our sight words and practice spelling CVC words together. We will have a dance party and gentle stretching. We will visit Scotland and Ireland and talk about interesting animals and items found there!  We will practice writing our letters U, V, W and X in lowercase and uppercase form.  Today for social emotional learning children will be telling and drawing their "owwee" stories.  Force and motion experiments.  Learners will use problem solving skills to make their items move.  Learners will do an addition and subtraction lesson today.  
  
Week 7- Learners will be practice their writing of letters Y and Z in both uppercase and lowercase form. We will read a short story with our sight words and students can identify which words they know. We will practice identifying rhymes.  We will visit Britain and France today!  Students will learn a short dance! We will practice some gentle yoga.  Learners will be doing experiments to see how non living things change forms.  They will use problem solving skills throughout lesson.  Learners will be measuring this class period for math.

Week 8- We will practice writing the entire alphabet and CVCe words. We will review our sight words and start to build them into simple sentences. We will read a story and identify words we know. We will practice our dance moves, play animal copy cat, and do some gentle stretches. We will also visit Brazil and Peru! We will learn about famous places and food we can find in these two countries. Learners will be painting with colors of emotion.  Learners will be participating in a STEM activity today.  They will be problem solving throughout lesson.  Learners will do an addition/subtraction lesson.

 We will learn about beginning sounds in words.

SEL/Art and Writing
 We will create emotion puppets and use them when reciting a poem. Then we will practice writing the letters A through D. 
Lesson 4:
Reading
 Find your favorite book and read it with someone in your house. 

Other Details

Parental Guidance
This class involves movement/Science and scissors. Students need water close by, a safe space to move around without getting hurt, comfortable clothes and shoes. Students will need parental supervision during all experiments. We ask parent's to be close by and available at all times for your child. Clay can contain wheat. Please be aware of the ingredients in yours for allergy purposes.
