Class Experience
I have 30 years of experience teaching in elementary public schools. I have a teacher certification in Early Childhood - 6th grade, a certification in Special Education K - 12 grades, and a certification in ESL grades K - 12th. In this 1st grade class, I will teach the Common Core Math Standards. My name is Melanie, and I have taught in public schools for the last 30 years. I have a teacher certification in Early Childhood - 6th grade, ESL certification K - 12th grade, and Special Education certification for K - 12th grade. I taught in K - 4th-grade classrooms, and as a teacher, I saw the need for small group learning. In smaller groups, students can gain a better understanding of the lessons. I encourage my students to participate and ask questions. My lessons are created to be interactive and help students build confidence in their math skills. As a special education teacher, I worked with many students with learning difficulties, and I can make modifications when needed for students.
After each class, I will post on the classroom page practice pages to reinforce that day's lesson.
Students will need: Individual size bag of M&Ms, Skittles, or any multi-colored candy paper - spiral notebook works best pencils colored pencils or crayons ruler coins 2 large pieces of manila or construction paper scissors dice glue or glue stick Pages will be posted ahead of class for students to print out.
At the end of each lesson, I will do a check for understanding review. I ask the students questions about the lesson and have them share their answers to practice problems.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
