Math doesn't have to be difficult or boring! Come to my math class and let me help your young learner review all common core math standards for first grade in EVERY lesson! This a class that is structured to give your young learner repeated opportunities to practice 1st-grade common core math standards to help them keep their skills fresh and build automaticity. This class is excellent for 6-8 year-old learners. As a student, I struggled with math because I desperately needed a teacher that...
In this class, I hope that students will learn to make sense of problems and learn to solve them. I would like to see students learn to reason abstractly and quantitatively. Students will learn to construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. The teacher will model with mathematics use appropriate tools strategically to help students develop better math skills.
Homework will be assigned based on the individual need of the student. Worksheets will be uploaded to the classroom for additional practice outside of class. The amount of homework depends on the student's availability outside of class, as well as their individual needs for progress. The teacher will make recommendations, but will not require work outside of class.
Students will need to bring a pencil, eraser, colored pencils/crayons, and a notebook to class work out math problems. It is preferred that students bring a composition book so they can keep track of their work from class to class. Students are not required to take all of the classes in a sequence, but it is helpful if they can keep all of their work in once place so they can refer back to key concepts and ideas in their free time. Optional homework will be assigned to each class for extra practice. Students will be provided with a worksheet to bring with them before each class.
2 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
