This class is on your schedule! Whether you are a home schooling mom who needs a little extra practice in reading and math or a new distance learner at a public school...this is the class for you. This class will supplement learning in 1st grade....but also may meet your needs in kindergarten. We will review the first week....then start moving quickly. All activities can be tweaked to meet your child’s needs. We will have a storybook of the week with activities to go along with the book focusing on the essential skills in 1st grade including book knowledge, sequencing, making predictions, retelling a story, identifying the characters, setting, problem and solution, and comparing and contrasting books. A reading time worksheet will also be provided for parents to work on letter identification, both uppercase and lowercase letters, letter sounds, sight words, blending sounds to read words, segmentation of words, initial sounds and basic reading. You will find activities for reading, literacy, a little math and science, some cooking and lots of fun! This is a FLEX class and will not have a live meeting, but children will need to post their activities on the classroom page to check in at least a few times a week. A video will be provided to listen to the book of the week. You will also find videos nearly every day to explain the daily activity. Children can interact by commenting on other people’s pictures and/or videos. There will also be an opportunity to interact with a Fall Leaf Scavenger Hunt. Students and parents can message me anytime with questions. This is the perfect class for those busy moms who are looking for a little learning, a lot of fun, and well organized activities that does not require a whole lot of prep time. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Emily Ruth and my passion in life is teaching children of all different ages in all different settings. I began my teaching career in a 1st grade classroom in a public school. After 5 years, I went back to school and received a license to be a speech language pathologist assistant. I have taught English to children in China on the internet and I tutor children ages kindergarten through 4th grade. Using music and rhythm across different subjects makes learning more fun and engaging. I teach kids their multiplication facts through catchy songs that really “stick” since music is the easiest way to remember information! We learn tricky sight words to a beat to make them easier and much more fun. I look forward to teaching classes with a fun read aloud and an exciting craft to go along with our book. With my expereince in 1st grade, I feel confident reinforcing those phonological skills and teaching children to read. I can’t wait to see you in my classroom for some reading, singing, crafting, cooking and fun!
