1 hour per week. Homework is optional in our classes, however we encourage everyone to complete homework and share it in the classroom.

Class Experience

US Grade 1
In this homeschool class, students will receive an entire first-grade experience through Science, Math, Social Studies, English, Writing, and Reading. Students will be taught by a certified teacher and a homeschool teacher.

In this entire 1st grade homeschool class, students will learn everything that's needed to be successful as a first-graders. 

Before enrolling in this class, please note that this class does not build on itself!!!!!! Therefore, this class is an ongoing class; parents can enroll in it as they see fit. A certified teacher will teach this class. The teacher will ensure that all learners are learning the material and assist and give parents feedback.

Students will have access to several interactive learning websites, such as, NearPod and Zearn. Zearn is an interactive website that is used to enhance our learners' math. Learners will have homework through the interactive learning website, allowing me to give effective feedback to learners. 

We will have fun learning and practicing our motoring movement skills through singing and dancing. Students will be able to work on their social skills by interacting with their classmates.  

Reading and Language will cover the following: 
CVC words 
Story sequence 
Phonics (understanding the concepts; consonant combinations).
Sight Words 
Vocabulary 
Blend consonant Sounds (vowel and consonant digraphs, and more)
Read simple stories fluently and independently.
Retell the main idea of a story and answer questions about the text.
Identify parts of a story or book.

Writing: 
Write from top to bottom, left to right, while using spacing between words.
Correctly write 3- 4 letter words and longer words phonetically.
Write simple sentences and short stories or paragraphs in chronological order.

Language Arts: 
Use correct capitalization and punctuation.
Understand and identify the parts of speech and types of sentences.
Identify compound words and distinguish between proper and possessive nouns.

Math: 
Count to 100; county by 5s and 10s to 100; count by 2s to 40
Represent numbers on a number line
Add and subtract 2-digit numbers
Write the date; tell the time; read a calendar
Count and create coin combinations; add and subtract money
Identify, sort, and classify 2-dimensional shapes
Understanding the value of money

Science: 
Life science (plants, animals, habitats)
Classification of animals and different animal habitats
Distinguishing between living and nonliving things
Earth and space science (solar system and beyond)
States of matter (solid, liquid, gas)
Type of light energy

Each week, our class will follow a special theme. This will help keep students engaged and make learning more fun. 

*A workbook PDF will be posted in the classroom for students. This is to be used as our learning worksheets such as Handwriting, Math, Science, Social studies, Reading, and Art.

Reading: Main Idea: Identify and describe the main idea of a nonfiction book using the title and illustrations
Math: Subtraction Word Problems

Social Studies: What is a map and understanding how to read the map. 

Week 3: 
Reading: Identify and describe the main idea of a fiction book using the textual details 
Math: Decomposition Strategies for Subtraction 
Science: Objects that are made of one or more materials 
Social Studies: Maps: Creating a map of our home and neighborhood

Week 4: 
Reading: Identify and describe the main idea of a fiction book using the title 
Math: Development of Subtraction Fluency Within 10
Science: Scientific words to describe physical properties 
Social Studies: Your local neighbors and surrounds

Suggestion: 
It may be easier to create a daily folder for each day with the materials/worksheets already ready for your learner. You may also want to try colored-coded folders for each day: Monday-red, Tuesday-blue, Wednesday-green, etc. I try my best each week to let you all know what we are working on each day. If you need any other tips, please let me know. I love to help all of our learners to be organized.

Hello! I am Ms. Brittany. I have 8 years of classroom teaching experience and 4.5 years of experience teaching online. I earned my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Kentucky University in 2012. I also earned my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2015, also at Eastern Kentucky University.  I've been married to my husband, Matt for 9 years and we have 2 boys ages 5 and 2. I love teaching! I believe children learn best using a hands on, minds on approach. I enjoy teaching a variety of ages! I like to cook, sew and craft as well. My goal is to provide fun, hands on experiences for my students. I look forward to meeting you soon!
