Class Experience

US Grade 1
In this ongoing homeschool class, students will receive an entire first-grade experience through Science, Math, Social Studies, English, Writing, and Reading. Students will be taught by a certified teacher and a homeschool teacher. The class will start with morning writing or read-aloud. The teacher will assign homework. The teacher will ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to participate in class. Homework will help enforce what's taught in our class. This class is ongoing; therefore, parents can unenroll and enroll anytime without feeling left behind.

In this class, students can access several different interactive learning websites such as Lilio, Epic!, Zearn, NearPod, etc. Your student will receive a password and username once they have registered for the class. Teachers will assign an assignment to your learner throughout the week on the website. 

We will have fun learning and practicing our motoring movement skills through singing and dancing. Students can work on their social skills by interacting with their classmates.

In this entire 1st-grade homeschool class, students will learn everything that's needed to be successful as a first-graders. 

Lessons will be presented in PowerPoint form and NearPod. 

We will have fun learning and practicing our motoring movement skills through singing and dancing. Students will be able to work on their social skills by interacting with their classmates.

Reading and Language will cover the following: 
CVC words 
Story sequence 
Phonics (understanding the concepts; consonant combinations).
Sight Words f
Vocabulary 
Blend consonant Sounds (vowel and consonant digraphs, and more)
Read simple stories fluently and independently.
Retell the main idea of a story and answer questions about the text.
Identify parts of a story or book.

Writing: 
Write from top to bottom, left to right, while using spacing between words.
Correctly write 3- 4 letter words and longer words phonetically.
Write simple sentences and short stories or paragraphs in chronological order.

Language Arts: 
Use correct capitalization and punctuation.
Understand and identify the parts of speech and types of sentences.
Identify compound words and distinguish between proper and possessive nouns.

Math: 
Count to 100; county by 5s and 10s to 100; count by 2s to 40
Represent numbers on a number line
Add and subtract 2-digit numbers
Write the date; tell the time; read a calendar
Count and create coin combinations; add and subtract money
Identify, sort, and classify 2-dimensional shapes
Understanding the value of money

Science: 
Life science (plants, animals, habitats)
Classification of animals and different animal habitats
Distinguishing between living and nonliving things
Earth and space science (solar system and beyond)
States of matter (solid, liquid, gas)
Type of light energy

Social Studies: 
National Holidays

Each week, our class will follow a special theme. This will help keep students engaged and make learning more fun. 

*A workbook PDF will be posted in the classroom for students. This is to be used as our learning worksheets such as Handwriting, Math, Science, Social studies, Reading, and Art.

Here's a weekly breakdown of our class: 

Week  1: 
Reading: Review
Math: Number Bonds and Addition
Science: Our Solar System 
Social Studies: Families, jobs, and money 

Week 2: 
Reading: What is an opinion and a fact. 
Math: Math: Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract.
Science: Planets 
Social Studies: What is diversity? 

Week 3: 
Reading: Identify facts and opinion keywords
Math: Understand subtraction as an unknown-addend problem.
Science: The galaxy 
Social Studies: Maps: Cultures around me! 

Week 4: 
Reading: Understanding Cause and Effect 
Math:  Relate counting to addition and subtraction 
Science: Beyond the stars
Social Studies: Presentation week! Share you culture with the class

Week 5: 
Reading: Review
Math: Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten 
Science: Presentation week! Everyone will be assigned a planet at the beginning of the week. Students will have the option to present their planets to their peers.
