In this 12-week pod, we will cover First Grade foundational skills in Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies including adding, place value, parts of a plant, retelling stories, weather, verbs, and graphing.

Class Experience

Math Learning Goals: place value, order of numbers, adding up to 20, subtracting up to 20, sorting and tally marks, graphing, measuring, shapes, patterns, addition practice, and subtraction practice.
ELA Learning Goals: retelling a story, key details in a story, fluency, describing characters, nouns, capitalization, comprehension, verbs, high-frequency words, Silent E, and short vowel practice.
Science Learning Goals: Scientific Method, plants, weather, seasons, weather patterns, tornadoes, hurricanes, thunderstorms, snowstorms, sleet, hail, frozen rain, types of clouds, and the Water Cycle
Social Studies Learning Goals: Rules, why we need them, family, friends, needs and wants, goods and services, transportation, maps, and globes.
Ms. Amy is a retired teacher with over 10 years of experience teaching grades K-5. She has taught all academic subjects during this time including Math and English/Language Arts.
Mrs. Maria is a retired teacher with over 30 years of experience teaching grades K-5. She has taught all academic subjects including Science and Social Studies. 
The learners will be completing assignments as a group. However, short homework assignments may be given to help the learner practice skills. The homework, if given, should take less than 30 minutes to complete.
Paper, pencil, eraser, ruler, and crayons/colored pencils/markers. If other supplies are needed, a post on the classroom page will be made at least 1 week prior to the class meeting.
The learners will be assessed informally throughout the lesson. They will be assessed using questioning and participation.
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Some of the questions and comments will be student-directed. The teacher will monitor classroom comments. When discussing holidays around the world, this information will be fact-based and secular in nature.
The teacher of each subject will be creating the materials used in this course.
