This class is broken into different parts. Students are encouraged to take classes in order, but are not required.

In this five week flex class, students will gain a better understanding of 1st grade ELA concepts. Concepts include phonological awareness skills, phonics skills such as sight words recognition and blending words, learning to write your opinion! Writing prompts/questions will be provided each week.

Lessons:
Each week, I will post a learning video with lessons on phonological awareness, blending words, sight word recognition as well as writing practice. In each learning video, the teacher will model new concepts and encourage students to follow along. Students can watch at their leisure, as well as have the ability to pause, and rewatch as needed. This flex class does not include any live meetings. However, interaction is required. Students will post weekly assignments, participate in classroom discussions as well as evaluate each other's writing assignment. Please see interaction section below for more details.

Interaction:
Student participation is required weekly, and will promote interaction and engagement among peers. Students will be required to comment on the teacher's weekly post as well as another students their thoughts and/or questions. I will also upload video tutorials for students to give a better idea of expectations, and model activities on a weekly basis. As part of the three part process of writing, students will work in partners to share ideas before completing their assignments. This strategy will help to fully incorporate participation from students. A separate discussion thread will be open for students to be able to communicate with one another. Once students are done with their writing assignments, they will post their completed work on the discussion forum for student feedback. Students wil be required to evaluate their peer's writing. Another way to ensure interaction between student and teacher interaction would be by using the Outschool recording feature to give personalized feedback to each student.

Assignments:
Additional practice will be assigned each week. Students will be required to upload their assignment each week so the teacher can review and help if needed. Students will be required to post their weekly writing assignment to the classroom forum. Students may also post videos/pictures of themselves interacting in other areas of the class, (phonological awareness/phonics lessons). After posting weekly assignments, students will also be required to evaluate their peer's writing responses as well.

Class Completion:
Certificate of completion is available upon request, to students who have shown participation throughout the length of the course. Part two of this flex class will be offered shortly after this one has finished. Parent schedule requests are also welcomed and will be accommodated!
