Class experience
Topics taught and covered: counting 1-25, first grade sight words from Dolch sight word list (you can find this full list on our class page), letter names and sounds, days of week, months of year, making a ten, songs, a read aloud at the end of class. This class is taught in English.
Students will practice numerous first grade level skills such as counting 1-25 (building each class) , letter names and sounds, weather where you live, day of the week, months of the year, making a ten, sight words. At the end of class we will have a read aloud story. Students are welcome to bring a stuffed animal with them to class.
I am a former first grade teacher of 3 years. I have worked with young children for years prior to that. I love circle time and it was always one of my favorite parts of the day in the first grade classroom! During circle time, students practice a variety of skills in a fun way.
Something to write with and on is helpful for some days of class when we practice writing sight words or work out math problems. This can be paper and pencil, a white board and marker, or even an electronic writing device. Whatever your child wants to use is fine. In addition, just bring your sweet, little learning self! If students want to bring a small stuffed animal along with them to class, they may. We'd love to meet your chlid's special "friend"!
