Many people consider Sherlock Holmes to be the greatest fictional detective of all time. In this class we will read and discuss 13 of his mysteries by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. We will talk about the mystery itself, how Holmes discovered the truth and the outcome of each case. Learners will write two papers over the course of the class choosing from 2 of 3 topics, one is more academic and the other two are more creative. Each week learners should read the assigned mystery before coming to class and be ready to discuss it with the rest of the class. All of the stories are public domain and easily accessed online, a link will be provided for the following week's story after each class. There is no reading for the first week. Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a former Home School student who has never stopped learning! I love history and telling stories verbally and through writing, and I want to share that passion with others. I believe the statement is true: “Those who don’t learn from History are doomed to repeat it.” We need to learn from the past to shape our own futures and the world in general. I believe the best way to learn about history is to learn about the people who lived through it and what they experienced and tell their stories. I love telling stories through writing and enjoy public speaking, so storytelling is a natural combination of the two.
I have 4 years of teaching experience in a variety of places from teaching/coaching drama and dance for homeschoolers in a group setting, to homeschooling two young children for a few months, to teaching English as Second Language (ESL) to college students, to teaching Arts and Crafts at a Summer Camp. I am currently a ESL teacher online with VIPKid. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Communication from Stevenson University.
I love to travel both in the US and internationally. I’ve spent time in almost every state on the East Coast and driven through the rest. I’ve visited seven different countries and lived in Asia for 17 months.
