Description

Class Experience

This course will run for 12 weeks and cover three aspects of writing for middle-grade students. We will spend time on the four poetry types; short stories; and reports.

Week 1: Poetry: Acrostics
We will use freewriting to get ready for writing acrostic poems and talk about how to elevate the poetry style from early acrostic poems students may have written. 
Homework: To write 2-3 rough drafts of acrostic poems, and choose one to edit to a final draft.

Week 2: Poetry: Concrete
We will use...

Students should end up with four poems, a short story, and a 3-page reports.

Homework each week will vary based on the topic.

Students will get PDFs posted each week covering the material talked about in class.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Students will get feedback from peers and teacher based on assignments posted and shared.

55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
