*This is the 50-minute version of my Writing Tutoring sessions. I have a shorter 25-minute version of this class available here:

As an academic editor, I hear a lot about how challenging writing can be - from coming up with a topic to editing and proofreading a final draft. In these private help sessions, learners will receive personalized guidance for any and all stages of the writing process while developing their own writing style.

Writers of any genre and in any subject are welcome to attend these help sessions. Whether you learner is a creative writer working on brainstorming strategies, a non-fiction writer working on their first 5-paragraph essay, or an academic writer working on a science thesis; we'll use our time together to make sure your learner is confident in their growing writing ability.

Writing projects that we can work on together include, but are not limited to:
- English essays and the 5-paragraph essay
- Ongoing personalized writing workshops for any skill level
- Middle School, High School, and College applications and personal statements
- Research papers and general ELA homework help
- Writing strategies and practice sessions for SAT/ACT/AP exams

After enrolling, please post your writing project to the Classroom with an explanation of what you would like to accomplish during our session together. If you are interested in ongoing sessions to improve general writing skills, please let me know that as well. This will help ensure you get the most out of our time together. *Access to Google Docs for easy editing is recommended but not required.*

If your learner is currently working on a writing project, then we will look at it together and create a plan for how to improve it. Learners are welcome to bring a writing prompt, a list of brainstorming ideas, a first draft, a final draft, or any other piece of writing with them to class. If the learner wants to improve their general writing skills, then we will work on writing exercises that will hone their current writing skills and strengthen any weak areas.

Regardless of the writing project we work on, learners will develop general writing skills to improve their overall understanding of writing mechanics and develop their own style.

Families are welcome to request a single session to get quick feedback on a specific paper, or as many sessions as needed (or multiple sessions in a week) to work on broader writing skills. Please feel free to message me with any questions you might have prior to enrolling!

How to share your child's draft or other writing project with me before our first meeting:

Google Doc and Docx files preferred! These are the best documents for editing and allow me to make the clearest and most efficient edits to your learner's work.

Access to Google Docs for easy editing is recommended but not required. To share a Google Doc, click the "Share" button, usually in the top right corner. Under "General access," select the options "Anyone with the link" and "Editor." This will allow me to quickly access your learner's document and be able to make notes directly onto their work. Then, simply copy and paste the Google Docs link into the Classroom or in a Message to me through Outschool.

I will also accept Word docx files, which I will convert into a Google Doc before our meeting.
Learning Goals
Students will receive specific feedback on written assignments. Families may request a personalized curriculum to continue to improve their learner's writing skills in general or to target a specific aspect of their writing.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional academic and creative writing editor. I have worked on college admissions boards vetting application essays, edited papers for graduate and post-graduate researchers, and have taught Bibliography and humanities research courses. I am a very thorough editor with an eye for correct grammar, tonal and colloquial accuracy (using the correct tone based on the writing task), and fact checking. I focus on teaching students how to effectively edit their own work rather than simply telling them what to change.
