Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
In this one on one math tutoring session, we can work on the specific skills that your student needs to succeed. Whether it's homework help, test prep, or just reinforcing existing skills, we can work together to expand that math brain! Are there specific IEP goals, Common Core Math standards, or DLM strings that need focus? Or helping a student who struggles to "show their work" get the words on the paper? I can help there, too.

Some of the topics that can be reviewed in this elementary level math tutoring include:
- Numbers and Operations: identifying numbers, numeral-quantity associating, place value
- Measurement and Data: qualitative identification (big/small, long/short, few/many), telling time, measurement skills, organization & classification
- Geometry: 2D and 3D shapes, partitioning, identifying angles / faces / vertices, area & perimeter
- Addition & Subtraction: from concept introductions all the way to working to numbers to 1000, with and without regrouping & borrowing
- Fractions: introduction to the concept, partitioning, operations with fractions
- Word Problems: identifying operations, organizing work, determining the best method to solve the problem, presenting the answer in the prescribed manner
- Pre-Algebra: variables, balancing, from concept introductions to more advanced problems
- SEL & Math Anxiety: Rather talk about math, and how it emotionally affects the student? In a SEL-focused lesson, we take a different approach to create a comfortable atmosphere to alleviate the causes of math anxiety.

I start my class with a casual chat about math, and the work that we'll be working on today. Then, we will tackle the task at hand. Some classes will include use of games and Google slides, others with worksheets and demonstrations. We finish up with a debriefing and if needed, work that they can complete on their own. Whether you're searching for 4th grade math, middle school math, money maths or more - we can work on it together!
Learning Goals
Students will receive reinforcement on the skills needed to succeed in their current math curriculum / lessons, based on the needs presented by the parent / caregiver prior to the tutoring session.

Other Details

Learning Needs
I am a certified special education teacher, and teach math on a daily basis to a crew of diverse and neurospicy learners. Students under the ASD umbrella, as well as student with attention / ADHD needs are encouraged.
Parental Guidance
Students will use Google Slides.
Supply List
Students should have access to something to write with, and something to write on. A pencil and paper is fine, but a small white board and white board marker are ideal! If students are completing their own homework, all of the tools needed to complete that will be required. (Worksheets, pencil & eraser, etc.)
